About the Campaign

Your support is needed today! We are asking you to invest in Minnesota State University, Mankato’s 2025–2026 FSAE Team (Formula Society of Automotive Engineers). In May 2026, we will compete against more than 120 teams from around the world at the Michigan International Speedway. With your investment, you become a vital part of the Maverick Motorsports family. Because of you, our team will have the tools, parts, and resources to transform ideas into a world-class car ready for competition at FSAE International.

FSAE International is a global challenge that puts the best university engineering teams head-to-head in automotive design, innovation, and racing with a small formula-style car. Preparing for this competition allows us to test our technical knowledge, leadership, and presentation skills while pushing the limits of engineering creativity. From concept to track, we plan, design, and manufacture in the most cost-effective way possible to build the fastest, safest, and most competitive race car we can.

Our team is organized into two main groups with specialized subgroups.

Engine Team: Combustion system, intake and cooling, exhaust, and fuel

Chassis Team: Frame, suspension, aerodynamics, and ergonomics

Minnesota State Mankato has proudly competed in FSAE since the 1980s, consistently placing in the top 25%.

This year’s team is stronger than ever, fueled by dedicated undergraduate students, the guidance of graduate mentors, and the passion to push past limits.

With this confidence, we aim to break into the top 10 or higher at FSAE Michigan. The only barrier standing between us and that goal is funding.

That’s where we need your support!

With your support, we can build the fastest and most competitive FSAE car Minnesota has ever seen—and proudly represent MNSU on the international stage. Every gift, no matter the size, makes a direct impact on our ability to compete, innovate, and succeed.

Sincerely,
The MNSU, Maverick Motorsports Team

Fuel Costs

One thing every race car needs is gas! This is budgeted into our plans this year and your donation of just 8 dollars can fill up our tank for lot testing to collect valuable data, or even get us across the finish line!

Electrical System

The FSAE car has become more and more complicated every year, which means more and more data logging and computer controlled devices. Every single one of those devices needs a connector and wiring to make it work. To build the wiring harness for the car we need dozens of connectors and more than 100 feet or wiring for a car that is less than 100 inches long. At about 10 dollars per connector it gets expensive quick!

Oil Changes

We will be doing extensive maintenance on the engine while dyno testing as well as lot testing. Pushing the R6 engine to the limits puts a lot stress on the oil and we must keep up with this maintenance to reduce wear before and during competition. Your donation can help us keep our engine from unnecessary wear and tear!

Donate

Tires

Help us buy a tire for the car! We go through a significant number of tires per season, we spend a significant amount of time testing the car before it ever hits the track, and then we need tires to go out and compete!

Composite Material

A significant part of our success in competition can be attributed to the downforce created by our aerodynamic devices. Aero materials are expensive and time consuming to build.

Donate

Exhaust tubing

Our car needs a high quality custom exhaust that means sound requirements. With your help we could build an exhaust that boosts power by 5% or more over last years exhaust. We need high quality tubing to create an exhaust that will save weight, deal with the extreme heat, and be able to fit into a very confined space.

Extra Engine

The FSAE team would utilize an extra engine to do research and development concurrently as the car is being built and allow us a safety margin to grant us the ability to still participate in Michigan in the event of a disaster. An engine being tuned and tested on a dynamometer while the car is being built it is infinitely valuable. A high power proven engine makes the work of real world driving and testing later in the season significantly more efficient.
